Versatility Titles
The American Shetland Sheepdog Club (ASSA) offers recognition for
versatility, or accomplishment by the same dog in conformation,
herding, and performance by offering two titles, the VC and the
VCX, which represent the certicate for versatility and the
certificate for excellence in versatility, respectively.
To earn either a VC or a VCX, a Sheltie must earn a minimum of 1
point from each division. The divisions are: conformation,
herding, and performance, the latter of which includes tracking,
obedience and agility. Only titles from the American Kennel Club
count toward the VC/VCX.
VC = a total of 6 points
VCX = a total of 10 points, with at least a major in
conformation
Conformation
(One point wins do not count toward the versatility titles.)
6 points = Championship (CH)
3 points = major win
1 point = 2 point win
Herding
6 points = Herding Championship (HCH)
5 points = Herding Advanced (HX)
4 points = Herding Intermediate (HI)
3 points = Herding Started (HS)
2 points = Pre-Trial (PT)
1 point = Herding Tested (HT)
Performance
Points can be earned from one, both, or all of the following sub
categories.
Obedience
6 points = Obedience Trial Championship (OTCH)
5 points = Utility Dog Excellent (UDX)
4 points = Utility Dog (UD)
2 points = Companion Dog Excellent (CD)
1 point = Companion Dog (CD)
Agility
(Titles count from either regular class or preferred (lower jump
height) class. Points may be counted for either standard or
jumpers titles at each level, but not both.)
6 points = Master Agility Champion (MACH)
4 points = Master Agility (MX or MXP), or Master Jumper (MXJ or MXJP)
3 points = Excellent Agility (AX or AXP), or Excellent Jumper (AXJ or AXJP)
2 points = Open Agility (OA or OAP), or Open Jumper (OAJ or OAJP)
1 point = Novice Agility (NA or NAP), or Novice Jumper (NAJ or NAJP)
Tracking
6 points = Tracking Championship (TCH)
5 points = Variable Surface Tracking (VST)
4 points = Tracking Dog Excellent (TDX)
2 points = Tracking Dog (TD)
