Our Goal:
To train, show, and breed high drive, in size, working dogs who also meet the conformational breed standards. While we have a few small dogs out there who are extremely competitive, and thus, very noticeable, our goal is to breed within the breed standard of 13-16 inches. Dogs who do not meet the 13 inch requirement are sold on spay/neuter contracts.
The VC/VCX capable dogs will always be our breeding goal. We select first for structure, drive and trainability, and second for conformation or "breed type" qualities. We will not retain a beautiful future breed Champion who exhibits only minimal or moderate drive. We also will not retain a working dog, no matter how driven, without proper structure. Dogs who are retained here at Sheltieranch are screened for genetic defects before they are bred. The selection process focuses primarily on working qualities, but we are striving for a long term goal of having specials quality breed dogs who can also work at the very top levels in performance venues. Among the performance venues, our primary focus is agility, but we do trial most of our dogs in obedience, herding and conformation.
Our selection process began with very top conformation dogs from which we selected for drive. As we continued our breeding program, we maintained focus on conformation attributes, but always selected from amongst the most driven pups. Our goal and passion is in training, trialing and watching those who own our pups succeed in performance venues. We do occasionally visit the breed ring. Our "Chase" managed to make the top 20 rankings in conformation in 2000 and 2002 by winning very big at the few shows he was able to attend. He is usually busy training and trialing in agility. He also has several herding titles. His kids and grandkids are following in his path.
We created this web site to share our dogs with you. We hope you enjoy seeing them and learning about us.
